Joanna Jedrzejczyk Eyes Zhang Weili Rematch Over Title Shot For UFC Return
Joanna Jedrzejczyk is looking to remind people that she’s still in the UFC.
And she plans to do so by taking on one of the top contenders of the strawweight division, which is Zhang Weili. This would be a rematch from their March 2020 fight where Jedrzejczyk lost her title to Weili.
“Everyone thinks I’m not in the UFC anymore,” Jedrzejczyk said. (transcription via Sport.pl)
“I am, I just dropped out of the ranking, because I haven’t fought for a dozen or so months, but I’m coming back and fighting [the No. 1 contender].”
During her time off, she made some appearances at home in Poland. But now, she’s ready to return to the UFC.
Jedrzejczyk said she spoke to UFC President Dana White and was offered to sit and wait for the targeted title match between reigning champion Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza. There has yet to be a date booked for this.
But the Polish fighter doesn’t want to wait that long.
“Dana [White] made me an offer to fight for the championship, but I would have to wait until November-December and I don’t want to wait. I want to fight,” she said.
Jedrzejczyk previously revealed she is also nearing the end of her UFC contract.
