Joanna: Rose Is Holding My Belt For Me

The former UFC women’s strawweight titleholder, Joanna Jedrzejczyk said this weekend in a fan Q&A during UFC Shanghai fight week in China that she believes she — not Rose Namajunas is still the rightful champion.

“I’m the real champion,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I’m the real strawweight with the belt. I built this division and I will run this division. I’m still running this division.”

Namajunas beat Jedrzejczyk by first-round knockout at UFC 217 earlier this month in New York. There was nothing remotely controversial about the finish. It was a dominant performance by Namajunas.

Jedrzejczyk, 30, won the title in March 2015 and would have tied Ronda Rousey’s record of six women’s title defenses had she beaten Namajunas. The Polish fighter believes she will get another chance at Namajunas — in her very next bout.

“Don’t worry, guys,” Jedrzejczyk said. “My first fight is going to be for a belt and I promise to you that I’m going to be a champion. She’s just taking care of my belt — cleaning the belt.”
