Joanna-Shevchenko Signed For UFC 231

With Nicco Montano stripped of her UFC flyweight title prior to UFC 228, the UFC has found a way to crown a new champion when they return to Toronto at UFC 231.

The organization announced this week that Joanna Jedrzejczyk will move up to 125 pounds to face off with Montano’s UFC 228 opponent Valentina Shevchenko on December 8th for the co-main event of the card headlined by Max Holloway and Brian Ortega’s featherweight title showdown..

This is “Joanna Champion’s” first chance at a title since losing to Rose Namajunas at UFC 217 and UFC 223. The former straweight champion looks to build off of her rebound win against Tecia Torres at UFC on FOX 30 in July.

Shevchenko’s journey to the flyweight title began after a failed effort to defeat bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, and cause her to move down to 125 pounds. In her flyweight debut, “Bullet” would dominate Priscila Cachoeira at UFC Fight Night 125 in February.
