Joe Rogan Labels Khabib Nurmagomedov The ‘GOAT’ Following UFC 254
UFC color commentator Joe Rogan has given Khabib Nurmagomedov quite the compliment.
This past Saturday, October 24, Nurmagomedov put his UFC Lightweight Championship on the line for the third time. “The Eagle” shared the Octagon with Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 254 inside the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Nurmagomedov scored the second-round submission finish via triangle choke.
After the fight, Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from MMA competition. “The Eagle” said that he simply can’t continue fighting without his father, Abdulmanap. Khabib’s father passed away earlier this year. The retirement announcement came as a surprise to many as the general consensus was that Nurmagomedov would attempt to go 30-0 before retiring.
Rogan wasn’t in the booth for UFC 254 but he was certainly paying attention. Rogan took to his Instagram account and keep it short and sweet in regards to Nurmagomedov’s legacy.
“Khabib Nurmagomedov is THE GOAT.”
Nurmagomedov walks away from MMA competition with a record of 29-0. Along the way, he’s beaten the likes of Gaethje, Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Rafael dos Anjos. Many argue that there was never a moment in Khabib’s UFC run where he appeared to be in danger of losing a fight. Nurmagomedov has expressed his belief that he is the pound-for-pound best fighter in all of MMA.
While Nurmagomedov’s name is likely to be thrown in with the likes of Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, and Anderson Silva, only “The Eagle” can say he retired undefeated. While that doesn’t instantly put Nurmagomedov at the number one position on all lists, it’s certainly enough for many MMA fans and pundits.
