Joe Smith Jr.: I Am Preparing The Right Way For Maxim Vlasov
Joe Smith Jr. feels he’s taking all the right steps in preparation for Maxim Vlasov.
On February 13, Smith and Vlasov will collide for the vacant WBO Light-Heavyweight Championship. This will be Smith’s second opportunity at a major world title. For Vlasov, this will be his first crack at a world championship.
Ahead of fight night, Smith has made it clear that he’s been focused on his training ever since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic (h/t Bad Left Hook).
“I just train because there is nothing else to do. I can’t go to the movies, I can’t go bowling, so while I sit at home, there are no distractions, that’s for sure. As far as conditioning, I do a lot outside and at home.”
Smith also praised Vlasov for his activity during fights but he feels he’s made the correct preparations ahead of the big title fight.
“Anybody is a dangerous opponent, but I am confident that I am preparing the right way for a tough fight. I know Vlasov is a busy fighter so I will come into this fight in great shape.”
Smith is going into his battle against Vlasov with a pro boxing record of 26-3. He’s scored 21 knockouts along the way. Smith is coming off a ninth-round knockout victory over Eleider Alvarez back in August 2020.
As for Vlasov, his record stands at 42-3. In 26 of those victories, Vlasov ended the fight via knockout or TKO. He was riding a 12-fight winning streak before being defeated by Krzysztof Glowacki back in November 2018.
Smith vs. Vlasov will air live on the major ESPN network and on FIGHT SPORTS in over 30 countries worldwide.
