Joe Smith Jr. vs. Maxim Vlasov Booked For WBO Title
Joe Smith Jr. and Maxim Vlasov will collide for a major championship.
Top Rank Boxing has announced that Smith vs. Vlasov will take place on February 13. The bout will be contested for the vacant WBO Light-Heavyweight Title. The event will air live on the major ESPN network.
Bob Arum said the following about Smith vs. Vlasov during a press release.
“This is Rocky IV come to life. Joe Smith Jr. is boxing’s blue-collar hero, a relentless fighter who chops down trees outside the ring and chops down opponents when the lights are bright. Maxim Vlasov is a tough Russian who is going to meet Joe punch for punch in the center of the ring. This will be an early contender for 2021 Fight of the Year.”
Smith also chimed in on his second major title fight.
“I have worked very hard to get a second opportunity at a world title. I feel I have improved, and on February 13, I am going to make my dream come true and become world champion.”
Vlasov also discussed the big title fight with Smith.
“This is a great chance, and perhaps my last opportunity, to finally become a world champion. Smith is a strong and relentless fighter, so I expect a very serious challenge.”
Smith brings with him a pro boxing record of 26-3 with 21 of his wins coming by way of knockout. As for Vlasov, he is 42-3 with 26 knockouts. Vlasov had his 12-fight winning streak snapped in his last outing.
