Joe Smith Thought Artur Beterbiev Would Finish Adam Deines Sooner

Joe Smith Jr. admits he didn’t think Adam Deines would last as long as he did against Artur Beterbiev.

Back in March, Beterbiev put his WBC and IBF Light-Heavyweight Titles on the line against Deines. Beterbiev scored the 10th-round TKO victory. While many expected Beterbiev to run through his opponent, Deines had his moments in the fight.

During an interview with BoxingScene.com, Smith said that while he won’t downplay Beterbiev’s performance, he did expect the fight to end sooner.

“His performance was pretty good, considering he was out for a while. He fought a guy he was supposed to get out of there. I thought he’d get him out of there a little earlier.

“Hopefully, everything goes well for us [on Saturday] and we can give the fans the fight they way. First thing is to get this [unfinished business] out of the way.”

Smith will be taking on Maxim Vlasov this Saturday night, April 10. The bout will be contested for the vacant WBO Light-Heavyweight Title. If he emerges victorious, then Smith is hoping to share the ring with Beterbiev.

Smith vs. Vlasov will air live on the major ESPN network and on FIGHT SPORTS in over 30 countries. Check your local listings.
