Joe Smith vs. Maxim Vlasov has officially been rescheduled.
Smith and Vlasov were scheduled to collide for the WBO Light-Heavyweight Title back in February but Vlasov tested positive for COVID-19. The bout has been rescheduled for April 10. The co-feature will see Efe Ajagba take on Brian Howard. Top Rank Boxing made the rescheduling official in a press release.
Here’s what Bob Arum had to say about the announcement.
“Joe Smith Jr. deserves this opportunity, and I know Maxim Vlasov will give him a great challenge. The light heavyweight division is one of the hottest in boxing, and the winner will have no shortage of lucrative opportunities.”
Smith chimed in, saying he’s ready to prove that all the trials and tribulations of his career have been well worth it.
“I am extremely motivated after all I have been through in my career. I am proud of all I have accomplished, and I am confident I will bring the belt home on April 10 and move forward with my goal of unifying belts and proving I am the best light heavyweight in the world.”
As for Vlasov, he’s looking at the positive COVID-19 test as a minor bump in the road.
“I am ready to return to the ring and become the new WBO light heavyweight world champion. The postponement was a minor setback, but it will be worth the wait when I have that belt around my waist.”
Smith vs. Vlasov was initially set to take place inside the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. With more venues opening their doors to the public again, a change has been made. Smith vs. Vlasov will now be held inside the Osage Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This event will be airing live on ESPN and on FIGHT SPORTS in over 30 countries worldwide.
