John Fury Suggests SugarHill Steward Should Be Fired For His ‘Controversial’ Comments

John Fury, the father of Tyson Fury, has openly advised his son to fire his trainer, SugarHill Steward.

Those comments are bound to cause a stir in light of what Fury and SugarHill have managed to achieve.

Following Fury’s controversial draw with Deontay Wilder, the Gypsy King hired SugarHill to much success. He captured the WBC title and is arguably the number-one heavyweight in the world.

While that may be the case, it appears that SugarHill’s comments in response to the Oleksandr Usyk undisputed fight collapsing have gotten on John Fury’s nerves.

Many of the boxing community blamed Fury for the breakdown in talks, especially since Usyk had accepted a 70-30 split. This is despite the fact that he is the unified heavyweight champion with three belts.

Not only that, but the 70-30 split is usually ordered for mandatory challengers, not champions. And Steward’s recent interview only aggravated those claims.

He revealed that he had arrived in the UK to train Lawrence Okolie for his fight against David Light. This implied that he did not plan on preparing Fury for his fight against Usyk on April 29th, 2023.

That has resulted in a forceful reaction from John Fury. In his comments to the Metro, he said: “That thing with SugarHill the other day, what the hell was that about? ‘I’m only here for Okolie.’ What was he talking about?

“When I have seen him training Tyson, he was living in Tyson’s house, he had his missus there, he was using the gym and I have seen him working Tyson out.

“And all of a sudden he denied him like Judas Iscariot denied Jesus Christ? What the hell was going on there? For me, that is a sacking offence.”
