Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson looks for his 12th straight title defense at UFC 227, when he defends his UFC Flyweight Title in a rematch with Henry Cejudo.
But Johnson, the sole flyweight champion in UFC history, has already run through the division. For a while now, there have been thoughts, rumors and clamoring that Johnson could match up with current UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw. Dillashaw defends his title in the main event of UFC 227 against Cody Garbrandt.
But the superfight has fallen through a number of times already. And in a recent interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Johnson claims to be over the thought of fighting Dillashaw and is focused on continuing to dominate the 125-pound division for as long as he can.
“I don’t think it will happen. I think it’s dead. The ship has sailed,” Johnson said. “I’m just over it. I’m just over it. I’m tired of talking about it. It’s almost like if you already said what the things are, why keep beating a dead horse? Why?”
Until something comes up, it’s just flyweights.
