Jon Jones Brushes Off Talk Of Stipe Miocic Fight
Jon Jones isn’t interested in fighting Stipe Miocic before sharing the Octagon with Francis Ngannou.
Jones has been bulking up for a move to the heavyweight division. He vacated the UFC Light Heavyweight Title back in 2020. There has still been no movement in terms of Jones’ heavyweight debut. “Bones” and the UFC have been at odds over pay. UFC President Dana White has claimed that Jones wants $30 million to fight heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
In some now-deleted tweets, Jones shut down the idea that he’d fight Miocic before challenging Ngannou for the heavyweight gold (h/t MMAFighting.com).
“Don’t get excited people, I’m not fighting Stipe.
“I’m not here to fight Stipe but I will defend my belt against him no problem. I’m looking for the biggest draw and I’m willing to wait. 33 years old in (sic) a better athlete right now than I’ve ever been before. I’m just going to keep training my ass off.
“I’m sick of hearing the same [expletive] you’re not a big enough star, you don’t bring in enough [pay-per-view]. I’m ready to fight fights that will bring in pay-per-view. The world wants to see some black-on-black crime right now and I’m ready to give it to them lol.”
White has confirmed that the current plan is to book a rematch between Ngannou and Derrick Lewis this summer. As mentioned in the deleted tweets, Jones seems content with waiting on a satisfactory money offer to fight “The Predator.”
Lewis holds a unanimous decision victory over Ngannou in a bout that was heavily scrutinized for its lack of action.
