Jon Jones Gets Nominated For The ESPY ‘Best Comeback Athlete’ Award Ahead Of Israel Adesanya
Jon Jones beat Israel Adesanya to the nomination for the ESPY ‘Best Comeback Athlete of the Year’ award.
Both fighters have had a memorable year as they reached the pinnacle of their respective weight divisions.
A victory over Jared Cannonier was followed by a loss to Alex Pereira, as Adesanya no longer had a middleweight title.
That all changed in the rematch, as the Nigerian won a stunning second-round KO at UFC 287 in April.
Meanwhile, Jones made his return to the Octagon for the first time in three years to face Ciryl Gane.
The performance was majestic, with Jones becoming the UFC heavyweight champion following a first-round-submission win.
But with very little to separate them, it was Jones who got the nod for the award, which could have gone to Adesanya on any other given day.
