Jon Jones Says Israel Adesanya Fight Does Nothing For Him Other Than Big Payday

Jon Jones is dismissive of fighting Israel Adesanya outside of scoring a nice payday.

Jones and Adesanya have been trading barbs for over a year. Things have even gotten personal between the two. Adesanya said Jones’ mother, who passed away in 2017, would be “disappointed” in who he’s become.

While there is still bad blood with Jones and Adesanya, “Bones” is moving up to the heavyweight division. Jones responded to fans on social media who believe he’s missing out on an opportunity to fight Adesanya.

“You’re joking right? I’ve been making millions since my early 20s, I don’t need a super fight with anyone. Fighting guys like Jan and Izzy does nothing for my legacy, winning the Heavyweight belt is the only thing that can bring me any higher than I already am.

Outside of a gigantic payday, he does nothing for me. Anderson was the man to beat in that weight class, not him. The next biggest legacy move for me is Stipe and I want all the smoke.”

Adesanya is the reigning UFC Middleweight Champion. UFC President Dana White has said he will get the next UFC Light Heavyweight Title shot against Jan Blachowicz. White seems to be having second thoughts, however, after Glover Teixeira stopped Thiago Santos and extended his winning streak to five.

Jones hasn’t been guaranteed an immediate UFC Heavyweight Title shot. With that said, White has appeared to be more open to the idea. Still, Francis Ngannou is supposed to be next in line for Stipe Miocic’s gold.
