Jon Jones To Undergo Surgery; Apologizes for UFC 295 Withdrawal
Jon Jones, the current UFC heavyweight champion, has revealed that he will undergo surgery on his pectoral tendon that had been injured during sparring.
According to reports, Bones will undergo surgery on October 27th, 2023. The injury meant Jones was no longer able to compete in his heavyweight title defense at UFC 295 against Stipe Miocic on November 11th, 2023. The initial diagnosis is that the injury will keep the fighter out of action until 2024, leaving the heavyweight champion with much to ponder.
Heading into the fight, there was a suggestion that the bout could be the last of either fighter’s career, depending on the result. Instead, Sergei Pavlovich vs. Tom Aspinall was added to the card as a co-main event, while Jiri Prochazka’s bout against Alex Pereira became the headlining event. So, given that the setback has also resulted in Miocic waiting on the sidelines, Jones was understandably disappointed at the news.

“Obviously, very sad situation, very upset. But I’ve been through a lot of things in life, and injuries are a part of being an athlete. I want to thank the UFC for getting me in to one of the best doctors in the country. I wanted to say thank you to Stipe Miocic for all the work that he’s put in. Also, sorry to Stipe and his team. Like I said, this comes with the territory,” Jones
Despite this being the case, the UFC heavyweight champion was intent on facing Miocic upon his return. Jones has shown a willingness to take on the best even after periods of inactivity, which was recently shown with a first-round-submission win over Ciryl Gane. And since Jones had been away from the octagon for three years prior to the win, the MMA fighter has backed himself to take on the best upon his return.
“I guess it will be Stipe and I at a later date, and that’s my plan. Hopefully, these other heavyweights, Aspinall and Sergei, put it on a great show for you guys. I may even show up to the event to watch. But I love you all, and hey, your boy Jon Jones is doing OK,” Jones

Such unfortunate news for the both of them. I wish Jon a super quick recovery and I hope we do get to see Stipe one last time. 🙏
