Jonathan Pearce Wants Ranked Fighter Next After Submission Victory At UFC 266
UFC 266 kicked off with an early prelims card. First up was Jonathan Pearce (11-4) going up against the Venezuelan Omar Morales (11-2).
Both the fighters were coming into this fight with a win in their previous outing and were looking to put on a good show this time as well. And they did exactly that.
“I’d like to be on another big card – (UFC) 269. I’d like another big name. I’d like a (ranking) number next to my name. I maybe have to get a few more fights to get there, but I didn’t just come here to be in the UFC. I came here to take a belt from them,” Pearce said.
The fight started slowly as both fighters were looking to get in their groove, but quickly Pearce shot for the takedown and recorded his first takedown of the bout.
Pearce landed six takedowns in the fight. Morales had no answer to Pearce’s grappling and seemed clueless while defending the takedowns.
Pearce finished the fight in the second round via rear-naked choke with a still good one-and-a-half-minute left in the round.
“I’ve been trying to work on different areas of my fighting game right now. Submissions was one of the things I wanted to work on rather than just TKOing guys once I got them to the ground,” Pearce said in his post-fight interview
“It seems like a dream to me. I can’t really remember much. We were slangin’ and bangin’, and the next thing you know I was on top of him choking him,” he added.
