One of the most controversial figures in UFC history has once again been involved in an unfortunate situation. Jon Jones was arrested early this morning (3/26) for aggravated DWI, negligent use of a weapon and possession of an open container.
The UFC Light Heavyweight Champion has since been released from jail in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, Jones (26-1, 1NC) was called in at about 1 .a.m. after officers heard gunshots. They went to the location where Jones’ Jeep was, where there were two homeless individuals near the vehicle and Jones in the front seat. Jones stated he did not hear a gunshot, prompting a DWI officer to enter the scene.
“I observed that he had blood shot watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his facial region,” the DWI officer wrote in the statement. “He did admit to driving earlier and had the intention to drive now.”
It was later reported that Jones’ breathalyzer test was over the legal limit. Following a search of the car, a black handgun and a bottle of Recuerdo was found. According to TMZ, Jones has a bond arraignment court date set for April 9.
This is not the first time Jones has been involved with the law. In 2012, Jones was arrested and plead guilty of a DUI after driving into a pole in Binghamton. In 2015, Jones was involved in a hit-and-run after driving through a red light and crashing into two cars, one of them holding a pregnant woman. He pleaded guilty to that as well. This past July, Jones was charged with battery that involved a cocktail waitress at a strip club. He pleaded no-contest
One of the greatest fighters of all time, Jones has had problems inside the octagon as well. He has been suspended multiple times due to drug use, and even moved a card from Las Vegas to California following an abnormal amount of turinabol that remained in his system.
Just a few days ago, Jones sent a message to everyone to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. His message was simple: stay inside.
