Jones Defends Picking Miocic Over Aspinall For His Next Fight

Jon Jones justified choosing Stipe Miocic over Tom Aspinall for his next fight.

The UFC Heavyweight Champion withdrew from his UFC 295 defense against Mioic in November last year with a pectoral muscle injury. Aspinall was brought on the card as he beat Sergei Pavlovich for the interim title. Aspinall requested that Jones be stripped, which Dana White dismissed. Jones has confirmed he has a date lined up for his return.

Beating Miocic would give Jones a victory against one of the best heavyweights in the UFC. There are suggestions that a win could see Jones retire. However, he is open to fighting Alex Pereira. The Brazilian stopped Jamahal Hill in his last fight at UFC 300, as Jones felt he was a bigger name than Aspinall. Jones denied ducking Aspinall, downplaying his accomplishments.

Aspinall will fight at UFC 304 in a PPV in Manchester, England. His opponent has not been confirmed. However, he has been linked with fights against Curtis Blaydes and Ciryl Gane. Blaydes is the only fighter who has beaten Apsinall, while Tom has accused Gane of ducking him. But until he faces Jones, Aspinall must continue cleaning up the division.
