Jones Retains IBF Title But Left Frustrated After Split Draw

Oshae Jones (9-0-1, 3 KOs) kept her IBF junior middleweight title but was left furious after her rematch with Eliza Carranza (11-2-1, 3 KOs) was ruled a split draw.

Jones outworked and outlanded her challenger 101-67 over ten rounds, yet two judges split 96-94 — one for each fighter — while a third had it 95-95, denying the champion the decisive victory she had sought after a controversial split decision in their first meeting last July.

Jones controlled the early rounds with crisp combination punching and sharp work off the back foot, keeping Carranza at distance and picking her off. The challenger’s aggression in the second half of the fight appeared to sway the judges. However, Jones handled the rough patches with composure, continuing to land the cleaner work. The exchanges were close, but the weight of the punch stats suggested the champion did enough. Instead, Jones heads home with her belt and a second contentious result against the same opponent.
