Jorge Masvidal Awards Bitcoins To His Fighters At New Promotion
UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal has been splashing the cash in his time away from the cage.
The MMA veteran awarded fighters at his bare-knuckle MMA promotion with bitcoins after the Gamebred Fighting Championship partnered with Legacy Records.
Legacy Records sponsored the first Gamebred Fighting Championship event back in June when the brand awarded four Bitcoin-loaded hardware wallets with various prize amounts to the fighters.
The newly launched promotion has had two bare-knuckle MMA events so far.
Bitcoiner and rising MMA star, Joel Bauman, starred on the first fight night with a KO win. He knocked out Brandon Johnson with a knee strike in the first round.
After the event, the fighters that hold Bitcoin wallets were awarded “Knockout of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” prizes.
“Being that we are the first MMA promotion that brought in cryptocurrency as part of our fight bonus for these fighters helps secure their future and brings more excitement to the sport,” Masvidal, who’s looking to his scale his promotion, said.
Masvidal last fought against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman this April. The Nigerian Nightmare won the rematch to continue his unbeaten streak. As for Masvidal, he is likely to fight against Leon Edwards next.
