Jorge Masvidal Maintains Innocence Following Colby Covington Altercation

Jorge Masvidal claims to be an innocent man following his altercation with Colby Covington in Miami earlier this year.

The altercation occurred in a local restaurant just weeks after Masvidal’s headliner event with Covington at UFC 272, which Masvidal lost via unanimous decision.

As a result of this incident, he now faces a felony charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Masvidal says he did what he did due to the personal attacks thrown at him and his family by Covington in the leadup to UFC 272.

“I come from a different place than many people and we walk differently in that place,” Masvidal told ESPN. “I am not going to let anyone disrespect my family. I can’t talk much because I’m being charged with three felonies. I can only say that I am innocent.”

He is currently pleading not guilty to the charge and posted a $5,000 bond after some short jail time.

He is currently scheduled to appear for a pre-trial hearing on August 17, with his trial scheduled for August 29.

Masvidal is a fan-favorite fighter, and many are eager to see him back inside the octagon, but his return could be delayed due to these legal issues.
