Jorge Masvidal Vs. Colby Covington Targeted For UFC 272 Main Event
Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington are going to meet in the octagon at UFC 272.
The welterweight grudge match was confirmed by UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell to ESPN on Tuesday.
Contracts haven’t been signed, but it’s nearly finalized, Campbell said. It is targeted to get scheduled as a five-round, non-title fight on March 5.
The UFC originally targeted to book a featherweight and bantamweight title fight as the main event, but those have been scrapped. Part of the reason is due to featherweight Max Holloway withdrawing because of injury.
Masvidal (35-15) hasn’t fought since suffering a knockout loss to Kamaru Usman in a welterweight title fight last April. He also lost to the champ in July 2020 via unanimous decision.
Covington (16-3) is also coming off two losses from Usman, the current welterweight king, both via decision.
