Jorge Masvidal Wants Another Title Shot And Interested In Fighting Nick Diaz, Paul Brothers
Jorge Masvidal missed his opportunity for the welterweight title at UFC 261, but is now ready to get back in the octagon and pick off someone from his hit list.
Masvidal (35-15) said he’s targeting title contention again after suffering back-to-back losses to Kamaru Usman in July 2020 then April 2021 and now has Logan and Jake Paul on his hit list.
“I’m gonna beat up all the Pauls,” Masvidal told ESPN. “If they put money in my pocket, that Logan Paul dude, Jake Paul, whoever Paul dudes — if they put money in my pocket, of course I’d like to break some Disney characters’ faces. I’ve been fighting men who have been training since 7, 8 years old to do the same thing to me what I want to do to them.”
“Fighting guys like [the Pauls] is a bonus, man,” he added.
The American welterweight’s relationship with the Paul brothers is changing.
When Jake fought against Ben Askren, Masvidal was helping him with moves. He also made a video call during the pre-conference to play with Askren’s nerves.
“UFC would have to sign off, but nothing is impossible,” Masvidal said. “Dana doesn’t like those guys, and Dana knows I’ll go in there and put a hurting on those kids. Maybe he does send in the f–cking assassin.”
But it could be more realistic for Masvidal to go against Nick Diaz, who would avenge his little brother, Nate. Nick is making his return against his former rival Robbie Lawler at UFC 266.
“If Nick looks good and does his job, why not me and Nick?” Masvidal said. “I’d love to fight Nick. It’s a classic fight.”
“… I was like, ‘Man, that’s a dude I would like to fight.’ Nothing personal, just because of his style,” he added. “The way that he leaves it all out there. If I get a fight with Nick, it’ll be a blessing.”
Masvidal and Nate faced each other at UFC 244. The referee stopped the fight because of a massive cut on Nate’s face. Masvidal won the BMF title.
After that victory, he faced Usman twice. The first fight was five days short notice. Gilbert Burns was out because of contracting Covid-19, but Masvidal suffered a defeat via unanimous decision.
He appeared in a rematch against the current champion and was defeated via brutal knockout in the second round.
Since then, Masvidal spent most of his time creating a new MMA bare-knuckle organization, Gamebred FC.
