Jose Aldo Returns To The UFC For Bantamweight Appearance In Brazil

Coming out of retirement for a bantamweight bout versus Jonathan Martinez, Jose Aldo will make his Octagon return this May at UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro.

The former long-reigning featherweight titleholder retired following a loss to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278 in 2022. But, prior to that loss, the legend was clearly still holding his own as he was riding a 3 fight win streak. Aldo’s most recent UFC victories came over Marlon Vera, Pedro Munhoz, and Ron Font.

After leaving the promotion, Aldo found success in the boxing ring, going unbeaten in 3 appearances. But now, he will make his return to top tier MMA action, and in his home country no less.

While Aldo’s opponent does not have the same kind of star power behind his name, Martinez is no easy night out for the Brazilian. In fact, Martinez is looking to keep things moving on his current 6-fight win streak.

Clearly on the best run of his career so far, Martinez most recently took down Adrian Yanez with leg kicks in the second round of their match last October. He also recorded a 2023 win over Said Nurmagomedov, and stopped Cub Swanson in late 2022.

UFC 301 will go down on May 4th from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and will be headlined by Alexandre Pantoja defending his flyweight title versus the 12-1 Steve Erceg. It appears that Aldo versus Martinez will serve as the co-main event, with Paul Craig taking on Caio Borralho at 185-pounds in the featured bout.
