Joseph Diaz Jr. Misses Weight, Stripped Of IBF Super-Featherweight Title
UPDATE: Joseph Diaz Jr. and Shavkat Rakhimov fought to a draw.
Joseph Diaz Jr. won’t be able to make a title defense of the IBF Super-Featherweight Championship.
Diaz Jr. was set to put the 130-pound gold on the line against Shavkat Rakhimov on Saturday night, February 13. The bout will still go on, but the title will either go to Rakhimov or become vacant by the end of the fight.
Diaz Jr. tipped the scales at 133.6 pounds during the weigh-ins. That’s 3.6 pounds over the limit for a super-featherweight title bout. Rakhimov hit his target at 129.8 pounds, making him eligible to win the championship.
There is good news, however, for the card. The WBO Junior-Middleweight Title bout between champion Patrick Teixeira and Brian Castano is official. Teixeira clocked in at 153.4 pounds, while Castano’s weight was 153.8 pounds.
