Joseph Diaz Jr. Vows To Fight Devin Haney In December

Joseph Diaz Jr. (31-1-1, 15 KOs) has promised boxing fans that he will square off against Devin Haney this December, shortly after Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn announced he was formally offered a fight against Haney.

“Imma fight Devin Haney in December y’all, I promise,” Diaz said. “Like Ryan Garcia, [Haney] hasn’t been tested and I’ll give Devin his first L.”

Diaz has been eyeing a shot at the WBC lightweight crown for a long while. The WBC interim champ was scheduled to fight Ryan Garcia on November 27, but Garcia broke his hand during a training session. The fight was then postponed indefinitely.

“I want to thank my fans for all the continued support,” Garcia tweeted. “… I will undergo surgery at Cedars-Sinai on Monday. I promise early 2022 I will return better, faster, and stronger than ever. I love you guys!”

With Garcia out of the picture for now, Diaz can earn the title shot against Haney without breaking a sweat. He was initially looking to reschedule his fight against Garcia, but Hearn seemed to have other plans.

Diaz, who represented Team USA in the 2012 Olympics, has only lost once in his career to WBC featherweight titlist Gary Russell Jr.
