Joshua-Klitschko Might Be Richest UK Fight of All Time
Anthony Joshua won in impressive fashion on Saturday, knocking out Eric Molina and securing his April super-fight with Wladimir Klitschko. That fight, the most important one that can be made in heavyweight boxing, is set to be the richest fight staged in the United Kingdom of all time.
The 27-year-old IBF champion Joshua will reportedly earn eight figures in one night when he steps into the ring with Klitschko. It will be the third title of Joshua’s IBF belt and the WBA title will also be at stake.
Klitschko, 40, was the unified heavyweight champion until he lost to Tyson Fury last year. With Fury sidelined by mental health issues, the belts were vacated, paving the way for this heavyweight super-fight.
The bout will take place at Wembley Stadium on April 29. It is expected to break the previous UK records set by the rematch between Carl Froch and George Groves in 2014.
That event set an attendance record with 80,000. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn believes that Joshua-Klitschko will shatter that with at least 90,000 in attendance on April 29.
