It may not be the fight that boxing fans had wanted, but Anthony Joshua will in fact fight in December. The British champ is expected to defend his IBF heavyweight title against American Eric Molina at the Manchester Arena on Dec. 10.
Joshua had been linked to a fight with former champion Wladimir Klitschko. After reports of a holdout to determine whether or not the vacant WBA belt would be up for grabs, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn began looking for new opponents in case the super-fight fell through. This week, it was announced that Klitschko had an injury and would not be fighting at all in December, but hopes to face Joshua in spring of next year.
Molina, 34, emerged as the top contender in a two-main race with Joshua’s British rival David Price.
Molina boasts a 25-3 record, having won his last two bouts by knockout. Prior to that, he challenged Deontay Wilder for the WBC heavyweight title and was knocked out in the ninth round.
