Eddie Hearn admitted that a fight between Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder is still on the cards.
The talks over a fight have failed to prove productive so far, leaving many fans frustrated. The two were on course to face each other all the way in 2019 for the undisputed heavyweight championship only for the talks to break down. In the aftermath, Joshua lost his belts to Andy Ruiz Jr. Meanwhile, Wilder lost his WBC belt to Tyson Fury. With that being said, Hearn revealed that the plan is to make the Wilder fight happen in January. However, if those talks do not result in anything happening, then the Brit is intent on fighting once more before the year is out.
“Everything is kind of agreed other than the signing of the paperwork. We know that takes time, especially in that part of the world. For me the biggest concern is AJ wants to fight in December or January. We know the Wilder fight is not going to happen in December, so we’re happy to wait until January – but if that fight starts pushing back to February or March, don’t be surprised if he still signs for that fight but has another one in-between,” Hearn
Nevertheless, a further delay in the fight will only increase the frustration amongst the fans. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media.

For the past 8 years he has been telling anyone who'll listen that this fight is going to happen. Unreal amounts of spoofing!

Remember Eddie saying every week for the last 6 months "AJ/Wilder is all set for Dec, then Jan, the terms are all agreed/locked in & contract will be signed next week"? Then since the Helenius "fight" he hasn't mentioned it at all 🤣
It was all hot air & waffle to con the public.— Tom Green (@Tom1Green22) September 7, 2023
