Judge Grants Golden Boy An Interim Injunction Against Vergil Ortiz

Golden Boy Promotions won an interim injunction against Vergil Ortiz Jr., preventing him from signing any contract for a Jaron Ennis fight outside of his existing agreement with Golden Boy.

The fight was reportedly being targeted for March 28 and then April 18 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Ortiz’s team argued that because Golden Boy’s long-term deal with DAZN expired on December 31, 2025, the fighter was free to walk away. Judge Silva sided with Golden Boy’s interpretation that the “distribution relationship” with DAZN had not terminated, even if the specific contract had expired, as the two parties were still actively negotiating a renewal. The court ordered that the remaining disputes must be settled through private arbitration. Until the arbitrator makes a final decision, Ortiz is legally prevented from negotiating with third parties, including Ennis’s promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing.
