Justin Gaethje Goes Off On Colby Covington: ‘He Is A Coward’
Justin Gaethje is not a fan of Colby Covington.
Gaethje and Covington were recently seen at a rally for POTUS Donald Trump. They were joined by UFC President Dana White, Henry Cejudo, and manager Ali Abdelaziz. While things appeared to go over smoothly, Covington irked Gaethje with some interviews he did following the rally.
During a media scrum for UFC 254, Gaethje told reporters that he’s none too pleased with Covington (h/t MMAFighting.com).
“He is a coward – he’s a fake person. He stands there and acts like this soft-hearted dude, and then he gets behind the camera and he’s a total coward and a fake person. I’ve never met someone as fake as Colby Covington. As a man, I would love to slap him right across the face.”
Gaethje is managed by Abdelaziz. In the past, things have gotten heated between Covington and Abdelaziz. In particular, the two had an incident at The Palms in Las Vegas months before Covington challenged Abdelaziz’s fighter Kamaru Usman for the UFC Welterweight Championship.
It’s likely that one of the comments that upset Gaethje was during an interview Covington had with MMAJunkie.com.
“Yeah, right – I did not call truce with Ali Abdelaziz,” Covington said. “That picture was specifically for Dana (White). He wanted a picture with the UFC guys, and I did it for Dana. I’m thankful for Dana for keeping sports in the world right now and moving the show on with so much going on. He’s giving the opportunity for fighters to keep putting food on the plates for themselves, and (Abdelaziz) is a dirt bag still. He’s an informant, that little rat. So I will never be friends with him.”
Gaethje is set to take on Khabib Nurmagomedov in a UFC Lightweight Title unification bout on October 24. Covington is coming off a fifth-round TKO victory over Tyron Woodley.
