Kamaru Usman, Alexander Volkanovski Nominated For 2022 ESPY Award
The UFC pound-for-pound monarch Kamaru Usman and the featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski are getting their recognition.
Both fighters will be in contention for the 2022 ESPY for “Best MMA Fighter” along with the former UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, and PFL star Kayla Harrison.
Former UFC lightweight kingpin, Khabib Nurmagomedov won the award last time around.
The “Nigerian Nightmare” Usman is due to face British star Leon Edwards in his next title defense at UFC 278 on August 20. Usman is currently riding a 21-win streak and is undefeated in the promotion as of now.
Except for Colby Covington, none of the fighters have come close to dethroning Usman from the top.
The Australian firepower, Volkanovski has also made the list of the nominees for the illustrious award.
Volkanovski has been unstoppable since making his debut in the promotion. His resume includes double over the former champ, Max Holloway, Brian Ortega, and Brazilian legend Jose Aldo.
Harrison, the two-time PFL champion, became the first PFL fighter to be nominated for the ESPY in the league’s young history.
‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira has had a fairytale run in the UFC so far.
Oliveira got the opportunity to compete for the lightweight title against the promotion’s newcomer, Michael Chandler at UFC 262 as Nurmagomedov vacated the title after announcing his retirement from the sport.
The winner will be announced at the 2022 ESPY Awards on July 20 and the ceremony will be on ABC.
