Former two-time UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is targeting a bout with Stephen Thompson as his next opponent.
Usman has been out of action since his two losses to Leon Edwards at UFC 278 and UFC 286 respectively. But now he is targeting the ‘Wonderboy’ next.

“I’ve done everything there is to do. The only guy that, to be honest, that even makes sense right now is ‘Wonderboy’, because he needs an opponent. Wonderboy’s been around for so long, and he’s just that name to where it’s always a good fight. His style is very, very difficult to fight. He’s just one of those names, he’s in my era, that I never really got to fight,” Usman
Thompson’s recent run of form is impressive. Three wins out of his last five fights have included triumphs over Kevin Holland, Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal.
And yet, those wins were also accompanied by losses to Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad.
However, since Thompson has indicated his wish to fight at UFC 295 on November 11th, 2023, could Usman be an opponent? Time will tell.
