Kambosos Wants Loma Next, Judge Who Scored Kambosos-Hughes A Draw Assigned To Spence Vs. Crawford
George Kambosos Jr. is targeting a bout with Vasiliy Lomachenko next following his controversial win over Maxi Hughes.
The Australian secured a majority-decision win over the Brit, despite Hughes landing the more precise punches, as the southpaw stance troubled the former unified lightweight champion.
So much so that Kambosos suffered a cut above the eye in the fifth round, as it began to bleed continuously.
Therefore, the following scorecards were heavily scrutinised: 114-114, 117-111 and 115-113.
Specifically, judge Josef Mason’s scorecard of 117-111 was of particular concern, as Shakur Stevenson called the decision a robbery.
Meanwhile, Tim Bradley demanded a better standard of officiating, with judges explaining the rationale behind such decisions.
Any chances of a rematch, though, appear slim as Kambosos was eying Loma next.
“We’ll fight Lomachenko next. That’s the fight. That’s a big fight that you really get up for,” Kambosos
This is understandable since the fight has been long-talked about. Prior to Kambosos defending his then-unified titles against Devin Haney, the 135-pounder was linked with fighting the Ukrainian.
However, the three-division champion went to Ukraine to help with his country’s efforts against the Russian invasion. So this time around, it’s an opportunity Kambosos can’t miss.
Spence Vs. Crawford Judges
Staying on the theme of judges, judge David Sutherland has been appointed for the Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford fight on July 29th, 2023.
Sutherland’s scoring for the Kambosos-Hughes fight was controversial, as the official scored it 114-114.
In addition, The Nevada State Athletic Commission has also confirmed the two other judges: Tim Cheatham and Steve Weisfeld. Meanwhile, the referee in charge will be Harvey Dock.
All three mentioned previously have worked together for the Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko fight that ended in controversy.
Despite the American being granted a unanimous decision, many felt Loma should have been given the decision. With that being said, the social media response was one of concern.
