Kape Calls Out Garbrandt For Potential Bout
The UFC’s flyweight division is need of some talent, and some exciting matchups. With the recent addition of Manel Kape, things just heated up. Who will the former RIZIN Bantamweight Champion face, however?
It appears that Kape (15-4) has found his dance partner. Kape called out former UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt on social media, after “No Love” expressed a desire to move down in weight.
“Like I say in my last post, “my contract already save this division (125) if @Cody_Nolove really come to fight in my division, bring him to my debut #EasyMoney !!!”
Kape started his pro career in 2012, joining RIZIN in 2017. He is 4-1 in his last five fights, winning the RIZIN Bantamweight Championship in the process. Back on New Year’s Eve at Rizin 20, Kape beat Kai Asakura via TKO to become champion. Now, he looks to conquer a new division.
Garbrandt (11-3) beat Dominick Cruz in 2016 for the Bantamweight Title. Since then he is on a three-fight losing streak. He was supposed to face Raphael Assuncao back in March but backed out due to kidney issues. He told ESPN his desire to head down to flyweight to “save” the division.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is unknown when or if this fight will take place. The UFC Flyweight Title is still vacant following the bout between Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo, in which the latter missed weight but still won, forcing the title to remain vacant.
