Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano All Smiles At Fight Week Kick-Off In New York

Two women who are set to make history kicked off fight week at the Empire State Building on Tuesday.

Katie Taylor (20-0, 6 KOs) puts her undisputed lightweight titles on the line on Saturday against seven-weight champion Amanda Serrano (42-1-1, 30 KOs), becoming the first female fighters to headline Madison Square Garden.

“You think of Madison Square Garden, and you think the likes of Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier these kinds of fights. It’s years and years later we’re still talking Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier kind of fights,” Taylor said.

“I think years and years later from this fight people are still going to be talking about Katie Taylor versus Amanda Serrano.”

During the face-off, Serrano was pictured laughing, forcing one of the cameramen to say, “Stop making them laugh.”

Serrano responded, “There’s nothing wrong with laughing.”

Taylor has fought twice before at MSG and two other times were at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. But as for Serrano, it’s here first time stepping into the ring at the New York venue.

“Being a Latina from Brooklyn, I’m excited to say, ‘I’ve made it’,” Serrano said.
