Katie Taylor Announces Her Farewell Fight Plan

Katie Taylor (25-1, 6 KOs) has confirmed that she will retire from professional boxing in 2026, with her final bout set to take place in Dublin this summer, subject to an opponent and venue being announced.

The announcement marks the beginning of the end of a journey that saw her transition from Olympic gold medalist in London 2012 to a two-weight undisputed champion. Taylor has reiterated that headlining at Croke Park remains her “ultimate ambition”. Should the 82,000-seat stadium fall through, the Aviva Stadium and the 3Arena could be backup options.

Following her trilogy victory over Amanda Serrano in July 2025, Taylor took a brief hiatus for personal reasons. The WBC then named Taylor a “Champion in Recess” at 140. In Taylor’s absence, Sandy Ryan captured the vacant WBC Junior Welterweight Title after beating Karla Ramos Zamora in a majority decision this month. If Taylor chooses to defend her remaining IBF, WBO, and WBA titles, an undisputed fight with Ryan could take place.

“We’re still trying to figure the details out but I do have one more fight this year. It’s kind of like my retirement fight. It has been an amazing journey, the whole lot of it, over these last 20 years. I have had highs and low. It has been an incredible, remarkable career and I always wanted to end it here in Ireland. I just want to fight in Dublin to end my career. Obviously we’re still hoping for Croke Park, we’re hanging on to a bit of hope that it can happen. If it doesn’t happen there are plenty of options there. Irish people have been so amazing to me throughout my whole career. It means so much to me. I’m just so grateful for that support and so grateful to be Irish,” Taylor said
