Katie Taylor Closes Out Career In Stadium Hosting First Fight Since Muhammad Ali Bout
Katie Taylor (25-1-0, 6 KOs) closes the curtain on her career on Saturday, September 5 when she fights Flora Pili (12-0, 2 KOs) — the last bout of her career. Taylor is defending her WBA, WBO, and IBF super-lightweight titles, with the vacant WBC belt also on the line.
Taylor turned professional in 2016 after adding the gold medal from the 2012 Olympic Games to the five gold medals she won in the World Amateur Championships. In the decade that followed, Taylor added wins over Jessica McCaskill, Delfine Persoon (twice), Natasha Jonas, Chantelle Cameron (twice), and Amanda Serrano (3 times).
Taylor’s final fight, against Pili, will be the most attended of her career as the venue, Croke Park, has a total official capacity of 82,300, which is reportedly sold out. This will be the first boxing match held Croke Park since 1972 when Muhammad Ali defeated Alvin Lewis by an 11th round technical knockout at the venue.
Should Taylor defeat Pili, she’ll hang up her gloves as a three-time undisputed champion.
