Katie Taylor To Fight Once More In 2017

Katie Taylor won the vacant WBA female lightweight title against former champion Anahi Esther Sanchez of Argentina last Saturday, and is looking for a quick return to the ring.

Taylor, who was a star attraction at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, exclusively live on Sky Sports, as part of the undercard to Anthony Joshua’s IBF, IBO and WBA Super heavyweight world title defense against Carlos Takam, participated in a homecoming press conference on Tuesday.

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, revealed that the 31-year-old would be back on December 15th, during  a press conference Tuesday, in Dublin.

Taylor will headline a card in a yet to be decided venue in the UK, with further details to be announced.

Hearn also revealed that there would be a homecoming fight for Taylor in Ireland in April, with the ultimate aim being to an undisputed champion in 2018.

“The plan is to unify the division in Ireland in the spring.”

“She’s huge here in Ireland and although the plan is to grow the Katie Taylor brand all over the world, ultimately, we need to return here and we need to have a big fight.”

Details surrounding the full card and Taylor’s opponent for just over six weeks’ time are expected soon.
