Katie Taylor Willing To Fight Bellator Champion Cris Cyborg

Undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor is making her next title defense against undefeated Karen Eizabeth Carabajal this Saturday.

But the Irish star already has plans for who she wants next if she’s victorious – Cris Cyborg.

“I think she had a fight a few weeks ago, she was getting a bit of boxing experience under her belt I guess,” Taylor told the DAZN Boxing Show.

“She is an MMA legend, she’s a lot bigger and heavier than me as well so that makes for an interesting fight. I would be willing to step into the ring with her if that’s the fight people are interested in so that could be possibility.”

Cyborg is the reigning Bellator featherweight champion. She weighs 145 pounds while Taylor is at the 135-pound limit.

But the undefeated Brazilian star had expressed how she wanted to try her hand at boxing, and Bellator CEO Scott Coker allowed her to go forward with her first boxing match against Simone Silva on September 25.

Cyborg won the matchup via unanimous decision.

In the MMA world, Cyborg is considered one of the best female fighters. She has tasted defeat just twice in her career – the first was handed by Erica Paes in 2005 and then second was at UFC 232 against Amanda Nunes.

Now, she is under the Bellator banner and has gone 5-0.

For Taylor, she has yet to see a blemish on her resume, going undefeated in all 21 of her pro fights.

She last won a tough battle against Amanda Serrano in April. Taylor squeaked out a split decision victory.

If Taylor doesn’t get a matchup against Cyborg, she might try to go for a rematch with Serrano, who has since dropped back to super featherweight and is one belt away from becoming undisputed there.
