Kayla Harrison explains why it’s ‘stupid’ to assume she will fight Claressa Shield
Kayla Harrison aka Doug is all praise for boxing veteran Claressa Shield’s good run in the MMA, but she does not plan on fighting her PFL colleague. Shield has been impressive in her win on her pro-MMA debut. She is already booked to have her second fight in August.
Harrison, who is among one of the best women fighters on the planet, has explained why it is foolish to think that the boxing champ and her will face off anytime soon.
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Harrison said: “I think PFL’s job is a little bit tougher from this point on. Like, where do you go from here? And I think that hopefully now this whole Kayla fighting Claressa thing can be put to bed because it’s just like, it doesn’t make any sense.”
“It would be like you guys saying, ‘Oh, Kayla should find Amanda (Nunes) after I had my first fight.’ Like, it doesn’t make any sense. No, that’s stupid. Stop,” Doug added.
When asked about her thoughts on Shield’s goal to take on her in the coming years, Harrison said: “I know that she has talked about wanting to fight in the season next year and wanting to fight me in the future, so I don’t want to be like a big sister to her. I said, ‘Good job. Way to go. Watched you.’”
The 30-year-old lightweight is undefeated so far with nine wins under her belt. She has also been linked with a move to UFC as well due to her back-to-back dominant performances in the PFL.
