Kenny Porter Eyeing Big Fights For His Son Shawn

Shawn Porter has made a career of competing in the right matchups. His father Kenny has helped with many of those opportunities. Now, in order to bring his son back to the top, Kenny has a plan in mind for his future.

On an Instagram Live session, Kenny discussed some potential opponents for Shawn (30-3-1), the former WBC Welterweight Champion. While Errol Spence Jr. is on Shawn’s mind to avenge a recent loss, Kenny discussed two other top welterweights that could face off against the 32-year-old.

“If you could give me the fight that we would want that would make a great show that night, Manny Pacquiao,” Kenny stated, via Boxing Scene. “But, you know, let’s not stop at Manny. Obviously, you know, since we talking about boxers, you know, Terence Crawford. That would be an amazing fight. I love challenges, Shawn loves challenges, I know Larry Wade loves challenges, Barry Hunter loves challenges. I’ve done seen my son play cards and Monopoly and all that stuff, and he’s slamming stuff down. He’s a competitive dude. You know, you give him a mountain to climb, you know, he’s gonna do it.”

Pacquiao (62-7-2) is the current WBA Welterweight Champion, defeating Keith Thurman for the title back in July. Shawn was a sparring partner of the Senator’s in 2009, when he beat Miguel Cotto via TKO to win the WBO Title.

Crawford (36-0) is the current WBO Welterweight Champion. Shawn has expressed interest in facing Crawford before, stating he’d love a cross-promotional bout.

Porter won the WBC Welterweight TItle in 2018, beating Danny Garcia in the process. A former IBF Welterweight Champion, Porter lost the title to Spence last year. That bout was considered the Fight of the Year. Besides another match with Garcia, Kenny has stated that Shawn wants a rematch with Spence, and that bout might be the one ahead of all the other potential fights.

“Of course, we’d love, me, gotta have the Errol Spence part 2,” Kenny went on to say. “[And a] Shawn Porter-Errol Spence [rematch], we’ve gotta have that… So, all of these guys, when this gate opens back up, you know, we planning on being there and being ready to come right through there or whenever they say we can do it, kick that door in. We already been working.”
