Keyshawn Davis Could Be Pricing Himself Out Of Haney Fight

Keyshawn Davis (15-0, 10 KOs) could be pricing himself out of his title shot vs Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs.

Haney reportedly completed his part of the negotiations for his WBO welterweight title defense, however Davis is seeking more than $3 million. Under WBO regulations, Haney receives 75 percent of the winning bid as champion, with Davis taking 25 percent.

That structure means Davis’ earnings are directly tied to the total bid reaching a certain threshold. A $3 million payday for Davis requires a $12 million winning bid.

Pushing his share to $4 million demands a $16 million bid. A $5 million ask would necessitate a $20 million total — allocating $15 million to Haney in the process. That’s a high price for promoters to pay, and it may be tough for them to justify spending that much as it’s possible they wouldn’t recoup the cost.
