Khabib Nurmagomedov Promised ‘Big Things’ Once UFC 254 Concludes

Ahead of UFC 254, Khabib Nurmagomedov has been promised “big things.”

Nurmagomedov is the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion. “The Eagle” will meet interim titleholder Justin Gaethje on October 24. The title fight will headline UFC 254 inside the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

During a UFC 254 media scrum, Nurmagomedov revealed that UFC president Dana White told him there is something special planned after his bout with Gaethje (via MMAMania.com).

“I don’t think [about retirement]. I don’t think. We have couple options, we’re going to think about this after fight. And Dana told me after this fight he has something special for me. But I told him, please keep this, after fight we’re going to talk. He said he has very big things after this fight for me. We’ll see. Right now, I’m focused on Justin Gaethje, October 24th. I am focused on him. I don’t want to underestimate this guy. Justin is a very tough opponent, very tough guy. He follow his dream. He’s very hungry. He just beat a very tough opponent. I don’t want to underestimate him. I am focused on Oct. 24.”

Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, took to his Twitter account to shut down speculation of Khabib fighting Conor McGregor or Georges St-Pierre.

“I can guarantee you that surprise won’t be Conor or GSP It’s completely between me and Dana It will be something big But let’s show some respect to Justin This is the best lightweight title bout in the history.”

Nurmagomedov is going into his third UFC Lightweight Title defense. He’s had successful championship defenses over Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, submitting both men. Gaethje is hoping to cash in by becoming an undisputed champion for the first time under the UFC banner. Gaethje is riding a four-fight winning streak with victories over Tony Ferguson, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Edson Barboza, and James Vick.
