Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Coach Has Advice For Charles Oliveira
Javier Mendez, the head coach of retired UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev, has advised the current lightweight titlist, Charles Oliviera, of pushing for a fight against Conor McGregor for financial benefits.
Mendez did not hold back when asked what should be Do Bronx’s next move after submitting Dustin Poirier in his first title defense.
“Go for the money… The UFC is a business, they’re going to do what they’re going to do. Whoever is going to provide the most money for Charles is who I believe he will go with,” Mendez said told MMA reporter Helen Yee.
Mendez gave the example of Poirier, who chose to have a trilogy fight against McGregor despite the UFC’s offer to have a title fight.
“What did Dustin do? Go for the title or go for the money? He went for the money So in this particular case, I’m thinking, since he already has the title, he’s going for the money. Whoever is going to provide the most money for Charles is who I believe he will go with.”
McGregor was quick to entice Oliviera for a title fight on social media hours after the champ retained his title. The Brazilian star also showed keen interest in sharing the octagon with the Irishman before giving Justin Gaethje a shot at the lightweight strap.
