Khabib Return Planned for September

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has previously expressed interest in returning to the Octagon this November, but he may be back sooner, according to UFC President Dana White.

Numraomgedov received a nine-month suspension for the aftermath from UFC 229. That suspension is up in July, but Nurmagomedov has stated he will sit out with his teammates whose suspensions are up in October. He added that he is finished fighting Nevada, where UFC 229 and his fight with rival Conor McGregor took place.

Nurmagomedov mentioned he might return in November during the UFC’s annual trip to Madison Square Garden in New York. However, during an appearance on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, White said that plans right now call for the Dagestani champion to return in September.

“He’ll be back in September,” White said. “It’s one of the things with him anyways, he’s on suspension and then he doesn’t fight during Ramadan. That puts him at September.”

Nurmagomedov is expected to face the winner of the UFC 236 interim lightweight title fight between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier.
