Khamzat Chimaev And Gerald Meerschaert Trade Barbs Before UFC Vegas 11

Things got heated between Khamzat Chimaev and Gerald Meerschaert in the final press conference before UFC Vegas 11.

Chimaev vs. Meerschaert will be featured on the main card of UFC Vegas 11. There has been a ton of hype surrounding Chimaev and the UFC has taken notice. There are plans for Chimaev to fight Demian Maia in Abu Dhabi if he gets past Meerschaert.

Things got a bit testy between Chimaev and Meerschaert ahead of the action this Saturday, August 19. During the final UFC Vegas 11 press conference, Chimaev and Meerschaert went back-and-forth (h/t MMAFighting.com).

Chimaev took a jab at Meerschaert’s record (31-13).

“You lose your fights. You are like friend of Conor. What is his name? Artem Lobov. How many times you lose your fights?”

The welterweight from Dagestan and fighting out of Sweden then took aim at Meerschaert for being submitted by Jack Hermansson.

“You think you’re a black belt? Jack Hermansson, he doesn’t have a black belt. Why did he choke you out?”

Meerschaert responded by reminding Chimaev that losing is simply a part of the game.

“Sometimes you lose when you fight tough guys, man.”

Chimaev then made it clear that he wants Meerschaert’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt if he can submit him.

“I have blue belt. I’m going to choke you out. … You’re about to give your black belt to me.”

Meerschaert accepted Chimaev’s challenge.

“If you choke me out, I’ll find a black belt and give it to you – how about that?”

UFC Vegas 11 will be headlined by a welterweight grudge match. Former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley will meet former interim titleholder Colby Covington. Also featured on the card will be a 170-pound tilt between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Niko Price.
