Khamzat Chimaev Hopes To Return For UFC 300 Following Hand Surgery

Later this month, Khamzat Chimaev will undergo surgery on the torn ligament in his hand that he damaged during his fight in October when he faced Kamaru Usman.

UFC 294 was a big moment for Chimaev, as he stepped into the Octagon and defeated the former welterweight champion in Usman. Unfortunately, this victory came at a price.

It was announced shortly after the bout that Chimaev had damaged his hand, but the extent was unclear. It is now obvious that he will be out of competition for an extended period of time. With that in mind, the speculation in the MMA community is that he may be ready to go by UFC 300.

“I’m gonna do a surgery, operation, in one-two weeks, after that, do the recovery, come back, smash somebody.”

“Tell Dana White, make that happen,” Chimaev said of fighting at UFC 300.

If Chimaev was able to avoid injury in his majority decision victory over Usman, it is likely that he would be next in line to challenge for Sean Strickland’s middleweight title. But, due to the injury, it is now evident that Dricus Du Plessis will be next to face Strickland in January.
