Khamzat Chimaev Vs. Sean Strickland To Headline UFC 328
The UFC has announced that middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev (15-0) will defend his belt against former champion Sean Strickland (30-7) in the main event of UFC 328 on May 9 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Chimaev and Strickland have been linked with a fight since their 2022 sparring session at Xtreme Couture, with both men claiming they “humbled” the other. This marks the first defense for Chimaev since he captured the belt with a unanimous decision over Dricus du Plessis at UFC 319 in August 2025.
Despite two previous losses to Du Plessis in 2025, Strickland catapulted himself back into the title picture on February 21 with a third-round TKO of Anthony Hernandez. The decision to grant Strickland the shot has caused controversy since the number-two-ranked Nassourdine Imavov was overlooked, despite being on a five-fight win streak, with wins over Israel Adesanya and Caio Borralho.
