Khamzat Chimaev Warns Conor McGregor Ahead Of UFC 257
Khamzat Chimaev has issued a warning to Conor McGregor ahead of the UFC’s return to Fight Island.
McGregor is scheduled to share the Octagon with Dustin Poirier on January 23. The bout will headline UFC 257 in Abu Dhabi. This will be a rematch from their September 2014 clash.
Chimaev has shared his disdain for McGregor in the past. The Chechen fighter was none too pleased with McGregor’s trash talk during his feud with Khabib Nurmagomedov back in 2018. In particular, Chimaev was ticked off at McGregor’s Chechnya references.
Speaking to Russian reporter, Igor Lazorin, Chimaev said that the UFC ought to protect McGregor on Fight Island as things could get ugly if the two cross paths (via talkSPORT).
“If I see him on Fight Island, something will definitely happen. The UFC needs to hide him.”
Chimaev once claimed that he planned to fly to Dublin just to find McGregor. He says he ended up being sent back to Sweden at the airport. Here’s what he told Adam Zubayraev.
“At that time, I was fighting as an amateur, or a pro record of 1-0, when that happened. I don’t remember his name, but he told us he knocked him out in a sparring session. My mind was blowing up at the moment, but I’m living here very close to him. I was thinking that I would catch him in the streets or at the gym and beat him up. This is what he deserved.”
Chimaev will be back in action on January 20. He’ll be in for the toughest test of his pro MMA career against Leon Edwards. That bout will also take place on Fight Island.
