Khan Believes Joshua Needs To Fight In U.S. Before Wilder

As Amir Khan is set for his return to the ring on April 21st, he also has a unique view on his new stablemate, Anthony Joshua’s quest for unification.

Khan, who has had experience about fighting in the United States, believes to make a fight between Joshua and WBC heavyweight champion even bigger, Wilder must fight in the United States.

And while that may be putting the cart before the horse, as Joshua still has to face off against WBO champion Joseph Parker on March 31st, Khan told Sky Sports that to be a star, you need to fight in the States.

“When you fight in America you become that global star, and that’s what I did,” said Khan, who is preparing to face Phil Lo Greco in Liverpool on April 21st.

Khan also claims that the fellow Matchroom fighter needs to just look at the history of the heavyweight division for the answer.

“One thing about the heavyweight division that AJ should definitely watch is – it’s always been big in America with Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Evander Holyfield.

“Why not fight in a country where heavyweight boxing is big?”

“If he wants to make a big name, I think he might want to fight there first.”
